Hiking Trails of PEI Book

Description

Beach Point Beach is not the nicest beach on the island but its quiet. The beach is tucked away in the south-east corner of the island. Its a great place to take a walk out to the Beach Point Lighthouse. From the lighthouse you can wathch the boats go in and out of Murray Harbour. You can also look across at the long sandbar near the mouth of the harbour. The island is usually covered with seagulls and cormorants.

Lobster boat and Beach Point Lighthouse

While at the lighthouse we watched a sparrow hop in and out of the large rocks. We also tried to take a picture of the swallows that zoomed by but they were too fast. We went and checked out one of the birdhouses along the beach where they stopped long enough to get their picture taken.

Directions

From Murray Harbour in eastern PEI, drive towards Beach Point on Route 18. After 3.9 kilometers you will find Beach Point Road on the left. This road turns to gravel right away. Drive to where the road comes to the beach and turn right into a parking area. You can access the beach from several small trails near the parking area.
